Man Walking Two Dogs While Driving Car: Animal Cruelty Video

There are some sights you can’t unsee, ones you need to doggedly pursue until justice prevails.

When Desiree Durst saw a man running two dogs outside his car on Saturday, one attached by a leash from his vehicle’s window, she tells KTLA, she jumped into a car to follow him and film the disturbing scene out of concern for the animals.

The upsetting incident took place along a rural road in Palmdale, California. The driver, who has not yet been identified, was reportedly exercising the dogs, which appear to be German shepherds. One ran alongside his car on a leash, while the other ran freely next to it.

“I saw him escalating in speed and the male dog was pretty close to being able to keep up, but the female dog just wasn’t able to,” Durst told KTLA. “She started tripping over her feet and then she just started rolling on the ground, and several times she almost went underneath the tire. I was kind of panicking because I was like, he’s going to kill his dog.” She said the dragging occurred before she turned on her camera; it does not clearly appear on the video.

Afraid the animals might be run over by the man’s car, Durst says she, her mother and her son continued to follow him, witnessing multiple distressing scenes, before attempting to pull up next to him and asking him to stop what he was doing.

“I was honking my horn the entire time trying to get his attention,” she said, which resulted in the dog owner becoming “really aggressive” and cursing at her.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, which is currently investigating the matter, for comment.
